The orchestra is now starting its annual fruit/cheese/goody fundraiser. The students received their packets today and have until November 18th to sell. The items will arrive just in time for Christmas, so consider ordering some for gifts. The money raised will go into each students individual account to help pay for uniforms, fees, or future trips.
Please only send in 1 check with your order (so have individual checks for sales made in your name and you write 1 check total) and please make it payable to Jefferson High School. The orders are due on Tuesday November 15th. 100% of the profit of this fundraiser goes directly into your students orchestra account.
Our first concert is Monday October 31st at 6:00. The students have worked incredibly hard on the music and we are excited to perform for you. There will be a costume contest starting at 5:30 with prizes for the winners. The contest is open to anyone who would like to participate.
After school on October 31st, the day of the concert, the students will have an after school rehearsal on the stage. Following the rehearsal, the Jefferson Orchestra Parent Association will be providing pizza for the students, we are asking some parents to donate water/desserts. Orchestra students need to wear a school appropriate Halloween Costume to the concert. If they prefer not to wear a costume they should dress in all black concert attire.
We have a few parents that are busy on Tuesday nights and have asked if we could move our Jefferson Orchestra Parents meetings to Wednesday nights this year (assuming we will still keep them at 7pm but if an earlier time works better for most people we can do that to). So right now our first JOPA meeting is scheduled for WED SEPT. 14th at 7pm in the orchestra room. If this makes too many problems for other parents that want to attend the meetings we can alternate the parent meetings Tuesdays and Wednesdays but right now we are planning on Wednesday nights.
Homecoming parade is next week (Wed. September 7th at 5:30 pm) and we have two, possibly 3 families who have committed to bringing a truck and flatbed for the students to sit on during the Homecoming Parade. The students have picked Farm Animals as their theme and we are asking if anyone has (safe) farm or animal related decorations to come on out next Wed and help the students decorate the floats. We are especially requesting a few bales of hay, etc. The students will be meeting in the orchestra room after school and the trucks/flatbeds should be parked at the end of the fine arts parking lot. Also we are needing any big paper or poster board to make signs/posters. If you want to come watch the parade it starts from Jefferson at 5:30 and travels past the Kingston Stadium parking lot entrance.
As the summer is ending and school is starting we are going to have another potluck picnic get-together, open to all current and former students and their families, and will get to meet our new teacher, Natalie Miller! The picnic is scheduled for Fri. Aug. 19th at 6pm at the pavilion at Cleveland park, families with the last name starting with letter A-H will bring a main dish, I-R will bring a side dish, and S-Z will bring a dessert (but its informal so just bring whatever you want to make really). Please bring your own plates, utensils and drinks. Hope to see you all there!
