Current News

Graduation- Thursday May 23rd

1st hour Orchestra Members and seniors enrolled in 3rd periodwill be performing for graduation this year. Orchestra members will sound check at 9:10am. The Orchestra will be dismissed to the Ice Arena after 1sthour rehearsal. Students are responsible to transport their own instruments to the Ice Arena. Students will need to be in their seats by 9:00am at the Ice Arena and enter through the front doors of the facility (Rockford Rd side). Orchestra students will be dismissed in time to attend 3rd hour classes.   Students need to arrive at the Ice Arena at 5:30pm for their pre-ceremony performance. Students may choose to stay for the ceremony or are free to leave. Orchestra students will begin their performance at 6:30pm. Non senior members should wear their black orchestra uniform. Ms. Burnes will collect the remaining uniforms directly after the performance.

Jefferson Orchestra Banquet- Monday May 20th

6pm- Banquet. Families and Friends are invited to join us for a banquet followed by a performance by All Members of the Jefferson Orchestra. Both events will be held in the Jefferson Band Room (air-conditioned facility!)

Please bring the following               

-A Main dish to share               

-A side dish to share:                                

-Sweet: Violins                               

-Savory (chips, appetizer or side): Viola, Harp, Cello and Bass

7pm- Concert and Awards

Senior Assembly- Friday, May 17th

Orchestra students enrolled in 1st hour and senior members of 3rd hourneed to be in their seats in the Orchestra Room by 7:15am to warm up for the concert. Harpist should meet us in the auditorium at 7:30am. Seniors will be dismissed at 7:40am to find their places, and then come back to the new gym to prepare to perform. At 8:05am, the seniors will be dismissed back to their line up for the processional.Seniors will be in their cap and gown, all other students should dress in nice and appropriate clothing befitting of a school assembly. No jeans or tennis shoes allowed. Girls choosing to wear skirts must be knee length when sitting. After the assembly, students will need to bring their chairs and stands back to the orchestra room. We will resume rehearsal as soon as possible to prepare Senior Solos for Monday night’s performance.

 
Invitational 2013!

On April 20th, we host our largest event of the year- the 11th annual Jefferson Orchestra Invitational. This year we are hosting 15 orchestras from around the state of Iowa. Here is how you can help support our orchestra:  Volunteer: We need over 25 parent volunteers to run this event. Advertising: We have extended the deadline. If you know of an organization or are involved in a business or group that would be willing to put an ad in our program, please help us reach them. This program is seen by thousands of students and parents spanning Eastern Iowa. Please see the attachment for more information. Files are due by Thursday April  11th.

 

Shout Outs: Please consider putting in a message to the orchestra or specific students recognizing their achievements. This can be fun! This is also due April 11th.

Kennedy Honor Orchestra

Congratulations to the following students for their acceptance into the Kennedy Honor Orchestra.

Gold Orchestra: Andrew Acosta, Lauryn Phelps, Siera Walker, Quintin Bruce, Thema Hawkins

Chamber Orchestra: Molly Meister, Noah Foreman

Students are responsible for sending in the registration form and fee by February 15th to the address located on the form. Students are also responsible for their own transportation to and from the event at Kennedy High School. Each accepted student has a hard copy of the registration with their music.
